Michelle Tomley
Background
With more than 23 years’ experience, Michelle Tomley is Special Counsel at Murphy's Law Accident Lawyers, bringing unique expertise from both sides of the fence in accident law and insurance litigation.
Having previously acted on behalf of insurers, Michelle now holds the coveted advantage of pre-empting both parties’ strategies when advocating for our plaintiffs. Through years of specialist insights into what makes insurers tick, her rare knowledge niche best places her to achieve the maximum possible compensation outcomes for our clients.
Since receiving Bachelors in Laws and Arts (Film and Media) from Griffith University, Michelle has spent more than two decades in motor vehicle accident, public liability, and workers compensation claims.
She joined us here at Murphy's Law Accident Lawyers from her most recent position as former Queensland Practice Leader for an international, ASX-listed accident law firm, where she led a team in major and catastrophic claims, specialising in Head Trauma.
Far from that corporate life, Michelle now genuinely thrives here by creating personal connections with her clients, developing a thorough understanding of their injuries and the impact of those in their lives, shaping up the evidence, and telling that story to her opponents with compassion and conviction.
No matter how nuanced a matter, Michelle has a knack for distilling complex strategies into easy-to-digest advice so that clients feel informed and assured every step of the way. Although an angel when it comes to client advocacy, she sure is a devil for the detail when demanding justice and achieving results.
Michelle also takes great pride in mentoring and sharing her knowledge, most recently having produced a comprehensive Quantum Case Reference tool summarising key findings from Queensland civil damages judgments. She has also prepared and presented peer-recognised training on the fundamentals of damages assessments in Queensland, along with thought leadership and advocacy to better educate the broader profession in rehabilitation avenues through the National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIISQ).
Michelle is a member of the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) and sits on the ALA Special Interest Group (CTP and NIISQ), actively working with the legal community on initiatives aimed at improving access to compensation for Queenslanders, particularly for those most seriously affected by physical trauma.
