Last Friday, the team at Murphy's Law Accident Lawyers gathered for our inaugural Futures Fest, a day dedicated to envisioning the firm’s future and setting the stage for our continued success. Held at our favourite offsite location, Rydges Fortitude Valley, the day was a blend of insightful sessions, interactive discussions, and collaborative planning, all designed to align our team’s objectives and values as we continue to evolve.
The wonderful Stephanie Gill from Focussed Fish facilitated the day with her signature skills as a “mojo magician”. Steph kicked the day off by introducing the concept of “Consciously Creating Murphy’s Law”, explaining the importance of shaping the firm's future with intent.
Current Reality
Founder Donna McManus framed the day by speaking about our “why”, revisiting the core mission of Murphy’s Law and sharing her personal journey. Principal Chris McManus followed with a review of the firm's wins, achievements, and a snapshot of current challenges. This segment provided a comprehensive look at where Murphy’s Law currently stood, setting the groundwork for future planning.
Creating our Compass
After some morning tea, Donna led a session on the firm’s vision for the next 12 months, including key objectives and values. The team split into groups to refine these values and explore personal alignments and conflicts, an activity that helped connect the firm's values with our individual goals.
Creating Me
After breaking for some delicious pizzas and snacks, Steph took us through the “Iceberg Model”, where we compared our current habits with our desired habits for the future, and how small changes can tangibly improve work results. We heard about the neuroscience behind this and finished with a guided meditation session, designed for us to visualise our personal futures.
Creating Together
We capped the day off by revisiting our key objectives for the upcoming year. Split into four groups comprising a cross-section of team members, we unpacked the importance of each key objective, identified barriers to their realisation, and identified strategies for their success, which each team then presented.
Friday Fun!
After some concluding remarks, we wound down at the bar to reflect on our renewed sense of purpose and direction. The day was not just one of meetings and planning; rather, an opportunity for the team to come together, reflect on our achievements, and set a unified course for the future.
A big thanks to Steph for facilitating the day, Donna and Chris for their insights, and Leanne for making it all happen. With a clear vision and actionable next steps, we are well-positioned to navigate the coming year with clarity and confidence. And that’s the Murphy’s way!
